Family Reunions

December 15, 2008 · Posted in Family, Fun Stuff, Holiday Parties

Ah, the family reunion. It’s become a summer must do, fully equipped with potato salad, chocolate cake, and Aunt Sue’s dish that no one knows what it is, no one eats it, yet she just keeps bringing it year after year. Good times.

If you’re the lucky one in charge this year of all of the planning for the family reunion, you may be a little stressed.

It can be a lot of work, especially handwriting countless invitations and licking that many stamps as well. So instead of that racket, simply post your family reunion information online. Your family members can reply back to you online and this part of the ruckus just became easy as pie.

Now what about spicing things up a bit? Are you tired of the same old family reunion year after year where everyone just sits around? And still not everyone knows each other? Well here are some tips for shaking things up without ticking anyone off:

Family Reunion Face Off

When everyone gets set all comfy and cozy in their usual little clicks, announce that there’s about to be a face off. No you’re not playing hockey, but half of the room is to move to the next table to the right. That way everyone is sitting with someone new and probably someone they don’t know. Thirty minutes later, do it again. Do it every thirty minutes until everyone has sat with everyone and been in each other’s faces. If there is one person left not knowing who someone is, it’s their own dang fault this time.

Family Reunion Scavenger Hunt

Type up a list of questions and hand out to each person of writing and reading age. Everyone is to complete and fill out by the end of the reunion. This will force your family to talk because whoever gets the most right wins a prize at the end of the day.

Here are some suggestions:

* How did Uncle Warren propose to Aunt Ester?
* How many kids does Great Grandpa Jones have?
* Which relative(s) moved here within the last 10 years from another country?
* Who traveled the longest distance to get to the family reunion?
* Which relative(s) have been in the service?
* Has anyone been in a war?
* What all nationalities are in your family?
* Who has the loudest laugh?
* Who has the biggest feet?
* How many bald heads are present today?

What’s the prize? They’ve won the responsibility of planning the next family reunion. How about a very nice 8 x 10 picture frame? Then when all of the pictures for the day have been developed, you send them the one that has everyone in it. Don’t forget it has to be 8x10.

Of course you can give a gift card or a gift basket or something that has nothing to do with the family. Just remember that it may be a child that wins and you also need the prize to be suited for either a male or a female.
