4 Easy Tips For Hosting A Baby Shower

April 21, 2009 · Posted in Adult Parties, Family

Hosting a baby shower can be loads of fun! After all, planning an event to celebrate the upcoming birth of a family member’s or good friend’s child is a beautiful opportunity.

However, many people do get slightly overwhelmed and stressed when thinking about planning an event as important as a baby shower. Instead of getting stressed out, use these four easy tips to ensure the baby shower you host will be full of fun!

1. Plan the shower at a public location. When you choose to host a baby shower at your home or the home of someone else, several things often occur. First, there is rarely enough sitting space for all guests, which can quickly create an uncomfortable situation for those
attending.

Second, the person who is lending you the home often feels stressed about cleaning and preparing their home for the party. Instead of adding chaos to the event, choosing a public location for a baby shower is a great option. Look for restaurants with banquet areas, chic boutiques with cafes, or other fun locations for your party.

If you choose a restaurant you can often get the space for free if you promise to order party food from their menu, which can essentially help you deal with the location and food all in one step.

2. Forgo silly shower games. Hosting a baby shower doesn’t mean you are required to force guests to play silly baby shower games. While everyone will pretend to love the games and the prizes, it’s more likely they’re not as excited about the games as you might think.

In fact, many people loathe party games. Instead of forcing guests to play traditional shower games, skip them altogether. Use the extra time to ask guests to contribute to a journal of motherly advice for the new mom to take home with her after the shower.

3. Merge family and friends for one mega-shower to save time for the mother-to-be. Unless the mother-to-be objects, suggest she have all of her family members and friends attend one main baby shower.

Pregnant women are often overwhelmed with various groups of their friends, co-workers and family members all offering to throw them a baby shower. Help her keep it simple by declaring all people in her life will be invited to the shower you’re throwing. You’ll save her the time and effort associated with attending multiple showers throughout her final days of pregnancy.

4. Decorate for the baby shower with chic style in mind. Instead of purchasing hundreds of dollars in tacky paper baby shower décor, consider hitting the local craft store for chic baby shower decorations you can do yourself. While at the craft store you can pick up a few yards of white tulle and use it to make decorative bows for your shower location.

Also gather together a group of small inexpensive vases or jars. On the way to the shower, purchase fresh flowers for your vases and in less than five minutes you can put together a beautiful floral table centerpiece. The mother-to-be can then take the fresh flowers home to enjoy after the shower.

Hosting a baby shower can be both fun and stress-free with a few tips and little imagination. Booking a public location, cutting out the shower games, and decorating simply can help make the day a complete success.
